CNPC in Turkmenistan

CNPC began to invest in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector in 2002. Currently, we are engaged in oil and gas field development, oilfield services, petroleum equipment marketing, and natural gas trade in the country. China and Turkmenistan are each other’s largest natural gas trade partner.

We carry out oil and gas business in Turkmenistan adhering to the philosophy of “mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation for common development”. We strictly abide by the local laws and regulations as well as business code of conduct, actively fulfill our corporate social responsibilities, take part in various social welfare activities, drive the development of local enterprises, and create more economic income and job opportunities for local communities. CNPC has donated over RMB 20 million to public welfare activities in Turkmenistan for culture, education, medical treatment and assistance to the disabled.

Oil and Gas Operations

Amu Darya Natural Gas Project

Construction of the project was initiated in July 2007. The commissioning ceremony of Phase 1 was held on December 14, 2009, at which the state leaders of China, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan jointly opened the valve to supply gas. The commissioning ceremony of Phase 2 was held on May 7, 2014. Currently, the project delivers feed gas of 14 bcm annually.

Oilfield services

The CNPC-affiliated Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited (CDEC) and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC) have contracted to build several large-scale oil/gas processing plants in Turkmenistan. Moreover, CDEC provides drilling services in the Bagtyiarlyk and Galkynysh gas fields; CPECC provides engineering construction services for the oil/gas field surface gathering and transportation system, long-distance pipelines, and power plants.
