CNPC in Kazakhstan
CNPC has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1997 and is now engaged in E&P activities, oil/gas pipeline construction and operation, refining and oil product sales, as well as oilfield services. Currently, we have oil and gas investment in AktobeMunaiGas, PK, Mangistau, Kashagan, North Buzachi, ADM, and KAM. Moreover, CNPC is the EPC contractor of the Kazakhstan-China Crude Oil Pipeline, the Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline, the Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline, and the Kenkiyak-Atyrau Crude Oil Pipeline, and jointly operates these pipelines with our Kazakh partners.

Oil and Gas Operations
AktobeMunaiGas
AktobeMunaiGas, CNPC’s first oil and gas cooperation project in Central Asia, is located in Aktobe in northwestern Kazakhstan. Consisting of four oil/gas fields, three exploration blocks and one controlling exploration and development block, the project’s business includes oil and gas field exploration and development, oil and gas processing, gathering and transportation, sales of commercial oil and gas, engineering construction, and research on the oil and gas industry.
PK Project
PetroKazakhstan, headquartered in Almaty, is mainly engaged in E&P, refining, and marketing of crude oil and refined products. Its upstream assets are located in the South Turgai Basin in central Kazakhstan, and consist of all or part of the rights and interests in 15 oilfields and five exploration blocks. The downstream business line generally includes refining and marketing of refined products and crude oil, associated with the Shymkent refinery (one of Kazakhstan’s three major refineries) and the transportation and sales network comprised of marketing companies across the country. Currently, CNPC holds stake in the company.
Mangistau Project
Headquartered in Aktau, MangistauMunaiGas (MMG) is the fourth largest oil company in Kazakhstan, and owns Kalamkas Oilfield and Zhetybai Oilfield, as well as 13 satellite oilfields, eight condensate gas fields, and two offshore exploration blocks. CNPC and KazMunaiGaz (KMG) each hold a 50% stake in the management of MMG.
Kashagan Project
In October 2013, CNPC joined the Kashagan Project through acquisition. The Kashagan Project is structurally located on the southern edge of the Pre-Caspian Basin, and consists of Kashagan Oilfield and Kalamkas, Kairan and Aktote condensate gas fields.
KAM Project
The KAM Project is located in Kyzylorda, southern Kazakhstan, and consists of Konys and Bektas oilfields in the South Turgai Basin.
ADM Project
Located in Kyzylorda, southern Kazakhstan, the ADM project has exploration licenses for the Aryss and Blinov oilfields, where oil reservoirs are buried at depth of 1,100-1,300m. After CNPC took over the project, Northern Lakeshore Oilfield, South Aryss Oilfield, South Sary-Bulak Oilfield, and Yespe oil-bearing structure were discovered successively.
North Buzachi Oilfield
North Buzachi Oilfield is located on the northwestern tip of the Buzachi Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Caspian Sea, in Mangistau Province, Kazakhstan. It is CNPC’s first oilfield development project in the Caspian region.
Shymkent Refinery
Shymkent Refinery is one of the major three refineries in Kazakhstan and is managed by CNPC and KMG, each holding 50% of the shares. The refinery provides products including gasoline, kerosene, aviation kerosene, diesel, LPG, VGO and fuel oil.
Asian large-diameter steel pipe manufacturing project
The project is located in the Alatau Industrial Park, Almaty, and is jointly invested and constructed by CNPC and KMG. In April 2017, construction of the steel pipe plant commenced, and it became formally operational in December 2019 after successful trial running.
Kazakhstan-China Crude Oil Pipeline
The Kazakhstan-China Crude Pipeline is jointly invested and operated by CNPC and KazTransOil (KTO). The pipeline runs from Kenkiyak in the central-west of Kazakhstan to Alashankou in China. The first phase was put into commercial operation in July 2006, and the second phase in October 2010.
Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline
The Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline is the section of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline in Kazakhstan, and is constructed and operated by CNPC and KazTransGaz (KTG).
The Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline (Line A, Line B and Line C in parallel) starts at the Turkmen-Uzbek border and runs through central Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan before reaching Horgos in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region. The pipeline has a design capacity of 55 bcm per annum and a design pressure of 9.81 MPa. Line A, Line B and Line C became operational in 2009, 2010, and 2014, respectively.
Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline
The Beineu-Shymkent Gas Pipeline is a component of Kazakhstan’s major livelihood project of gas transmission from west to east, and is also a critical channel to export Kazakhstan gas to China. It runs from Beineuin Mangistau Province, and passes through four provinces within Kazakhstan to connect with Line C of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline at Shymkent. It is jointly constructed and operated by CNPC and KTG.
Construction of the project commenced in July 2012, and the main works were completed in October 2013. Its designed gas transmission capacity was reached at the end of 2017and is expected to be increased by the end of 2020, thus meeting gas demand in southern Kazakhstan.
Kenkiyak-Atyrau Crude Oil Pipeline
The Kenkiyak-Atyrau Crude Oil Pipeline, the first long-distance pipeline jointly constructed by China and Kazakhstan, runs from the Kenkiyak station in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, to Atyrau at the north coast of the Caspian Sea. It is constructed and operated jointly by CNPC and KTO. The project went on stream in May 2003, and is currently under the renovation for reverse transportation.
SINOOIL
Through a joint venture, SINOOIL, we carry out international trade of crude oil, refined products, natural gas and chemical products. Meanwhile, we invest in, construct and operate petroleum processing plants, storage facilities, and end-user sales networks in Kazakhstan.
