Comprehensive Utilization of Coke Oven Gas in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia

In 2012, CNPC's Coke Oven Gas Comprehensive Utilization Project for energy conservation and emission reduction in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia was put into operation. This is the first large-scale coke oven gas-to-LNG project in the world. State-of-the-art technology was introduced to efficiently utilize coke oven gas for emission reduction purposes. Gas emitted by nine coke-oven plants in Wuhai was collected and delivered to Ningxia Petrochemical to replace natural gas for LNG production, with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. Every year, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 2.07 million tons and sulfur emissions by 1,640 tons. The LNG produced can be used, after processing, as the raw material for chemical fertilizer.
